Funny Christmas Gifts for Coworkers, Picked by Type of Coworker

Graduate Who Accidentally Replied All 'Love This!' To Gift Swap Email Is Now The Entire Party Planning Committee

On Monday at 8:47am, People and Culture emailed the whole floor about a Christmas gift swap. Zoe, Graduate Analyst (still excited), meant to forward it to her friend Mia with "love this! lol". She replied all. Without the "lol".

By 9:15am the email had been forwarded to the leadership team with one line: "Great to see Zoe stepping up." By 10am she had been added to the Party Planning Committee. She is the only member. The committee's first job is a Christmas gift for everyone on her team. There are six of them, and she has spoken to two.

Comic: Zoe alone at the head of a long boardroom table with a clipboard and a stack of six wrapped presents
Monday, 10:00am. The committee meets.

Zoe does not want to disappoint the partner who said she was stepping up. So the committee, all of it, starts exploring . . .

The gifts

Grouped by type of coworker. The types overlap: most engineers are also tired, and every new starter is on mute by February. Mix and match.

FAQ

What is a good Christmas gift for a coworker?
Something small for their desk that is funny about work in general, not about them. Pick by what they do all day, which you know, rather than their taste, which you don't.
How much should you spend?
Around $15 to $30 each. Enough to look like you thought about it, not so much that they feel they owe you one back.
Should everyone get the same gift?
It is easier, and it is fine for a big team. Picking by type takes ten more minutes and gets a much bigger laugh when they compare.
Is it OK to give the boss a gift?
Yes, if it comes from the whole team. A gift from one person to the boss can look like a pitch for a promotion.
What about a coworker who is fully remote?
Anything light that posts well: stickers, notepads and printables. Order early, because the post is slower than Slack.
What should you not give?
Anything about how they look, anything with the company logo, and a candle that just says "vanilla". A candle that says something is allowed.
